Organisation - Montagne du Parc

Organisation

The building site organisation comprises three main phases: the dismantling of the existing structure, its demolition and the construction of the new building.

Construction Phase

Dismantling phase

This phase involves removing all the contents. The aim is to end up with a totally empty building, from which all interior fittings and finishings have been removed, leaving just the structure and the partitions made of heavy materials. The building is now ready for demolition.

During the dismantling phase, the work has only a minor impact on the outside of the building. No work is carried out alongside the façades or on the roofs. The main impact concerns the use of the streets to organise the site. In particular, the pavement areas and parking places along rue Ravenstein and rue des 12 Apôtres are used to set up the site on the basis of the plan below.

Demolition and construction phase

In this phase, the entire building is demolished to result in an open basement site delimited by the structures against the ground (apron and walls against the ground). In this basement  site, all that will remain is the metro tunnel and its supporting structure.

Apart from the demolition itself, work is needed to stabilise the existing basement site. This will consist of anchoring the walls against the ground in the adjacent area and potentially temporary lowering the ground water level. This work will be carried out during the demolition phase and be maintained during part of the construction phase of the new building until the structure is sufficiently advanced to ensure the stability of the structures against the ground.

Start demolition works Montagne du Parc building

January 12, 2016 BNP Paribas Fortis received from the city of Brussels the demolition permit for the old Montagne du Parc building. Meanwhile the demolition contractor is also known: De Meuter will lead and run this large demolition site.

The complete demolition works will last more than a year; as of May the towers will simultaneously be demolished.

Preparatory works for the site arrangements have started early January. In order to safely execute the demolition, a site fence will surround the entire building; a separate truck track for loading and offloading will be installed on site.  Circulation plans specific for each phase will be communicated.

Circulation plan 01 valid from March 3rd on.

All pedestrian crossings are conserved although the footways of rue Baron Horta, rue Ravenstein, rue des Douze Apôtres and Montagne du Parc are included in the demolition site. This means that pedestrians will only be able to use the opposite side of the street, and this during the entire duration of the works.

The parking spaces rue Ravenstein and rue des Douze Apôtres will not be available during the works. Through-traffic and all entrances to neighbouring buildings will be guaranteed during the entire duration of the demolition works.

Other changes in terms of mobility due to specific site installations or -transportations will always and in due time be communicated.
